Hi Lovelies,
This is my easy, healthy filo Recipe.
I know a lot of people hate fish or dislike the taste of it but I love FISH! Yes I said it to the people at the back. It is one of the healthiest, low calorie and cheapest things to eat.
According to several reputable sources fish should be consumed at least twice a week especially oily fish. Why? heart health, brain health and many more noted Here
In New Zealand we are spoilt for choice so I used Hoki for this recipe as It was easily available and taste super good.
Ingredients
A packet of Filo Pastry
Hoki or any fish you would like. For each person I used a palm sized portion of fish
Paprika, Salt & Pepper
Butter
Method
- Wash the fish and cut into cubes. Put into a bowl, add 2 tablespoons of Paprika, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 Teaspoon of pepper. Leave to the side.
- Filo pastry can be a pain to be honest but if its not perfect just layer another layer of the pastry to hide previous ones. Carefully, unroll the filo pastry from pack. I used about 4 Sheets and keep the unused ones damp with a damp cloth.
- It should be a rectangle shape. Put the fish on the pastry towards the front of the rectangle. Add a dollop of grassfed Butter. Roll the filo into a fat cigar shape shape. Tuck ends under the roll to prevent mix from oozing out. If you are unsure this link from The Spruce Eats gives step by step instructions.
- Bake 30 mins or until Golden and Enjoy!
Q + A
Can I used something else if I don’t like fish?
Sure thing but probably cook it first. Fish cooks with the filo pastry but I am not sure about the other meats used.
Whats the difference between pastry and filo pastry?
In contrast to puff pastry, phyllo dough has almost no fat, it’s mostly flour and water and can dry out easily so thats why we put butter in the pastry. Phyllo gets crisp and flaky when baked but it doesn’t have the same rich, airy quality that puff pastry has.
This is just fish, can I add other things?
Of course, try spinach and fish it tastes so delish!
Isn’t butter unhealthy?
Fat is important to our health. I generally use a small amount of butter and with filo pastry because It dries the butter does help it stay together.
Enjoy!
Lots of Love,
N
